CITY OF SHAKOPEE MEMORANDUM CONSENT To: Mayor and City Council Mark McNeill, City Administrator From: Mark McQuillan, Natural Resource Director Subject: Approval to Use Park Reserve Funds for Huber Park Project Date: August 5, 2003 INTRODUCTION The City Council needs to approve the use of budgeted funds in 2003 Parks Capital Improvement Program for improvements to Huber Park. BACKGROUND The City's Parks Capital Improvement Program identifies $100,000 in 1003 to begin adding fill to Huber Park. There may be opportunities for the City to acquire fill at a very low costs or possibly free. Besides the dirt needed to fill the park, there are other related costs to consider. Those costs include: . Silt fencing/erosion control . Stormwater sewer extension . Dozer rental . Dust coating . Signs . Seeding Staff estimates these costs at about $25,000. Some of the work can be done in-house and some by private contractors. How much work can be done in-house depends on the availability of the Public Works crews. At this time, the City has access to dirt from the new Scott County Jail Site. We are preparing to accept the fill by mid August. The City Council needs to first approve the allocation of the funds identified in the CIP before work can begin in the park. RECOMMENDATION Move to approve the use of Park Reserve Funds as stipulated in the 2003 Parks Capital Improvement Program for Huber Park. ACTION REQUESTED Move to approve the use of Park Reserve Funds as stipulated in the 2003 Parks Capital Improvement Program for Huber Park.
