CITY OF SHAKOPEE
MEMORANDUM
To: Mayor and City Council
Mark McNeill, City Administrator
From: Mark McQuillan, Natural Resource Director
Subject: Pheasant Run Change Order
Date: August 6, 2003
INTRODUCTION
The City Council is asked to approve a change order for site grading adjustments to
Pheasant Run Park.
BACKGROUND
On July 19, fifty volunteers from the Pheasant Run neighborhood and supervisors from
Midwest Playscapes, Inc. install play equipment in Pheasant Run Park. In preparation for
this installation, representatives from Mom's Landscaping and Design, Midwest
PlayscaEes, Inc. Public Works, the Park Planning Consultant (via phone) and I met on
July 17 at the park. At that time it was determined that the grade of the large play area
needed to be raised one foot. Raising the grade would serve to improve drainage,
decrease the amount of retaining wall required and reduce long-term maintenance costs.
By July 17th, a week after the City accepted ownership ofthe park, the contractor had
graded the park according to plan. The concrete work for much of the park had been
completed except for the large play area. In order to elevate the grade, we shaved a
considerable amount of dirt off the slope on the west end of the park, eliminated all the
berms and hauled in fill from a different site.
The change order to re-adjust the grade amounted to $7,015.00. The City administrator
was apprised of the change prior to the work. The budget amount established by Council
was $85,000.00.
ACTION REQUESTED
Move to approve a change order for Mom's Landscaping & Design, LLC to adjust the
grade fur the Pheasant Run Park Project at an amount O~$7'0 ~
