Cox, City Clerk~ SUBJECT: Changing the November 4, 2003 Meeting Date DATE: August 12, 2003 INTRODUCTION: The Council is asked to change the date in which the first regular City Council meeting in November is held. BACKGROUND: The first regular meeting in November would normally be Tuesday, November 4th. However, that is also the day of the City election, and, by State law, Council would be prohibited from meeting prior to 8:00 p.m. on that day. In addition, by State law, the Council must meet within seven days of the election to canvass the results. At the regular meeting on August 6, 2003, City Council set a special election to fill the unexpired term of Bob Sweeney and designated November 5, 2003, at 7:00 p.m. to canvass the ballots. Therefore, it is recommended that the first meeting in November be delayed to Wednesday, November 5, 2003. ACTION REQUIRED: If Council concurs, it should, by motion offer Resolution No. 5917, Changing the November 4, 2003 Council meeting to Wednesday, November 5, 2003, and move its adoption. I:ElectionIResChangeDate RESOLUTION NO. 5917 A RESOLUTION CHANGING THE NOVEMBER 4,2003 CITY COUNCIL MEETING DATE WHEREAS, the Shakopee City Code has set the first Tuesday of each month as the regular meeting date for the City Council; and WHEREAS, the Shakopee City Code allows the City Council to change the meeting date by adopting a resolution at least one week prior to the regularly scheduled meeting. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SHAKOPEE, MINNESOTA, that the November 4, 2003 regularly scheduled City Council meeting be changed to November 5, 2003, at 7:00 p.m. Adopted in adjourned regular session of the City Council of the City of Shako pee, Minnesota, held this 19th day of August, 2003.
