CITY OF SHAKOPEE
Memorandum
CONSENT
TO: Mayor and City Council
Mark McNeill, City Administrator
FROM: Judith S. Cox, City Clerk~
SUBJECT: Changing the November 4, 2003 Meeting Date
DATE: August 12, 2003
INTRODUCTION:
The Council is asked to change the date in which the first regular City Council meeting in
November is held.
BACKGROUND:
The first regular meeting in November would normally be Tuesday, November 4th. However,
that is also the day of the City election, and, by State law, Council would be prohibited from
meeting prior to 8:00 p.m. on that day.
In addition, by State law, the Council must meet within seven days of the election to canvass the
results. At the regular meeting on August 6, 2003, City Council set a special election to fill the
unexpired term of Bob Sweeney and designated November 5, 2003, at 7:00 p.m. to canvass the
ballots. Therefore, it is recommended that the first meeting in November be delayed to
Wednesday, November 5, 2003.
ACTION REQUIRED:
If Council concurs, it should, by motion offer Resolution No. 5917, Changing the November 4,
2003 Council meeting to Wednesday, November 5, 2003, and move its adoption.
