Re: Thermal Imager Camera Quotes
Background: The Shakopee Fire Department Annual Budget for 2003 has
$12,000.00 allocated for the purchase of a Thermal Imaging Camera. This would
be added to the first engine out of Station 51. Currently, the other Thermal
Imager is on the first engine out of Station 50. As you know, moments count
when locating a victim in a house fire. We feel that having a camera in each of
the first due engines, the first engine on the scene will be able to quickly locate
the victim by being able to "see through the smoke".
The "Rapid InteNention Team" will also use the cameras. Which is now part of
the Scott County protocol for mutual aid fires in case other firefighters get
trapped in the building during firefighting operations.
There have also been vast improvements in Thermal Imagers since the purchase
of our first camera approximately 4 years ago. Some of the benefits are; Bigger
displays for easier visibility in adverse conditions, Lighter cameras and tilting
displays for use when you are crawling or standing, Colors on the display when
the temperatures reach a certain degree to warn us if we are approaching a
possible flash-over area, New computer technology for a better picture and faster
refresh rates on the display.
After researching the different styles and features of various cameras. We have
decided that the Scott Eagle Imager 160 is the best camera for the fire
department. We have requested quotes from companies for the purchase of a
'Scott Eagle Imager 160"
The quotes are as follows:
Clarey's Safety Equipment - $10,300.00 plus the addition of $500.00
for the truck mount charger.
Scott Health and Safety - $11,100.00 plus the addition of $500.00 for
the truck mount charger.
I
Recommendation: Authorize the Shakopee Fire Department to purchase the
"Scott Eagle Imager 160" from Clarey's Safety Equipment for a total of
$10,800.00.

Breakthrough Affordability
Microbolometer technology has repeatedly proven its value in fire service thermal imaging
cameras. However, until now, the cost of such cameras presented a real challenge to many fire
department budgets.
. The Eagle Imager" 160 is the result of Scott's efforts to encourage continued development of
technology that is superior in performance, yet affordable enough so that departments can
deploy thermal imaging cameras on all of their apparatus.
· The new high resolution, lower cost Eagle Imager 160 with its FirecooIed= microbolometer
is the product of Scott's partnership with BAE Systems, the international leader in defense
electronics and information technologies, and the leading supplier of microbolometer cameras
for the fire service.
