Outstanding Assistant Award

INTRODUCTION:
At it meeting of September 2nd, Assistant to the City Administrator Tracy Schaefer, will
be recognized upon the receipt of a statewide award.
BACKGROUND:
The City of Shakopee has many employees who are excellent in their work; however, it is
especially gratifying when one of its employees is recognized by their peers.
At its annual meeting of August 21 st, Tracy Schaefer was awarded the "Outstanding
Assistant" award ofthe Minnesota Chapter ofthe Association of Public Management
Professionals.
This is a prestigious award, and is given to the county or municipal professional assistant
who has demonstrated significant achievement and development in his/her job. Ms.
Schaefer was selected from a number of very worthwhile candidates, and was cited
especially for creative problem solving in several areas, including:
. Leadership in defining contracts for organized waste and recycling for
cities,
. Project Manager for the about-to-be completed Shakopee Public Library.
. Negotiating responsibilities for cable television franchise renewal.
. Leadership in a nationally-unique partnership for installation of an
institutional telecommunications network connecting city, county, and
school facilities.
Ms, Schaefer has been employed by the City since May of2000.
ACTION REQUIRED:
No action is asked of the Council, other than to be aware of and commend Tracy
Schaefer for being the recipient of the 2003 Minnesota Chapter of the Association of
Public Management Professionals Outstanding Assistant Award.
