Two-Hour Praking on 3rd Avenue 15.F.I, City of Shakopee Be.u~~eJ Memorandum C6f\~l\t TO: Mayor, City Council Mark McNeill, City Administrator FROM: Tracy Schaefer, Assistant to the City Administrator SUBJECT: Two-Hour Parking on 3rd Avenue MEETING DATE: September 16, 2003 Introduction The Administration Department is seeking authorization to post two-hour parking, from 8 am - 5 pm, on the North half of 3rd A venue between Lewis and Sommerville Streets. Background City staff expects library customers to at least triple after the opening ofthe new library. Although the parking lot, located behind the library, has 51 parking spaces, some street parking will be needed during peak hours and special events. In order to lessen the impact on existing residents and businesses in the downtown area, staff recommends posting two-hour parking rather than eight-hour parking to encourage long-term library users to utilize the parking lot. Several downtown business owners have also approached staff and feel the two-hour parking would be beneficial. County Library Director, Vanessa Birdsey, also supports the two-hour parking restriction. Recommendation Staff recommends posting parking on the North half of 3rd A venue between Lewis and Sommerville Streets to two-hour parking, instead of eight-hour parking.
