HomeMy WebLinkAbout15.F.4. Library and Police Lighting and other outdoor purchases City of Shakopee IS. F: 1 Memorandum TO: Mayor & City Council CONSENT Mark McNeill, City Administrator FROM: Tracy Schaefer, Assistant to the City Administrator SUBJECT: Library & Police Lighting and Other Outdoor Purchases DATE: September 16, 2003 Introduction Light poles, garbage cans, park benches, bike racks and ash ums are needed for the new library and police buildings. Background Rather than purchasing outdoor lighting, garbage cans, bike racks and ash urns for the library and police building through the contractors, city staff realized it was significantly cheaper to use companies that PW has used to purchase similar items for other city facilities. To complete the library four "old fashion" Victorian lights need to be purchased in order to match the rest ofthe downtown streetscape and lights. The library also needs to purchase two ash urns, two garbage cans, one bike rack and six park benches for the new library customers. The police department needs to purchase three ash urns and two garbage cans for its new facility. Budget Impact The city will save significant amounts of money by have city staff purchase these items than through the contractor. The library lights will costs $7,008 and the outdoor items for the library will cost $6,049.38 and $1,058.61 for the police, for which each amount will be taken from the respective contingency fund. Action Direct appropriate city officials to purchase Victorian lights for $7,008, library garbage cans, ash urns, bike rack and park benches for $6,049.38 with funds from the library building contingency fund and police department garbage cans and ash urns for $1,058.61 from the police building contingency fund. 1
