SUBJECT: Library & Police Department Grand Openings

Introduction
City staff is asking City Council to authorize appropriate city officials to spend no more
than $1,500 from the library building contingency fund and no more than $1,500 from the
police building contingency fund for the grand opening ceremonies in November.
Background
Library and police department building grand opening ceremonies are tentatively
scheduled for Saturday October 7. In order to have a proper grand opening ceremony,
invitations for the public will need to be sent, educational flyers about the facilities and
some general refreshments need to be served.
It is the goal of staffto have the grand openings on Saturday November 8, the library
grand opening ceremony from 11 :00 am - 1 :00 pm and the police department grand
opening ceremony from 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm.
Wal-mart has already donated a $1,000 that will be used to purchase magnets to hand out
at the ceremonies and staffhas approached some business and the Friends of the Library
for other donations as well.
Budget Impact
The budget impact will be minimal, since $1,500 will be taken from each building
contingency fund, a total not to exceed $3,000.
Action
Authorize the appropriate city officials to spend no more than $1,500 from the library
building contingency fund and no more than $1,500 from the police building contingency
fund for the grand opening ceremonies in November.
