Hiring of Engineering Personnel IS.c.l, CITY OF SHAKOPEE CONSENT Memorandum TO: Mayor & City Council Mark McNeill, City Administrator FROM: Bruce Loney, Public Works Director SUBJECT: Hiring of Engineering Personnel DATE: November 18,2003 INTRODUCTION: Interviews have been held with candidates for the Assistant City Engineer position that was open in the Engineering Department. After the interviews, the interview team has met and is recommending hiring Jeff Weyandt for the Assistant City Engineer position. BACKGROUND: The Engineering Department has a vacancy in the Assistant City Engineer position with the departure of Scott Smith at the end of August. The Assistant City Engineer position has been offered to Jeff Weyandt who is currently a Project Engineer with Bolton & Menk, Inc. He has previously worked as a Project Engineer for William Engelhardt & Associates, Inc., a consulting firm. Mr. Weyandt has agreed to the position of Assistant City Engineer and hired at Step B, Grade 9 ($64,993.00) of the 2003 Pay Plan. A total of five persons were interviewed and the interview team consisted of Mark McNeill, City Administrator; Bret Weiss, WSB & Associates, Inc.; and Bruce Loney, Public Works Director RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends that Council authorize the hiring of Jeff Weyandt for the position of Assistant City Engineer starting at Step B, Grade 9 of the Non-Union 2003 Pay Plan effective December 8, 2003, subject to a successful completion of pre-employement physical and background check. ACTION REQUESTED: Move to authorize the hiring of Jeff Weyandt for the position of Assistant City Engineer starting at Step B, Grade 9 ofthe Non-Union 2003 Pay Plan, effective December 8, 2003, subject to a successful completion of a pre-employment physical and background check. ~o~ Public Works lrector BUpmp PERSONNEL
