CITY OF SHAKOPEE CONSE'~T Memorandum TO: Mayor and City Council FROM: Mark McNeill, City Administrator SUBJECT: Joint Meeting/Public Works Workshop DATE: February 12, 2009 Comment: Introduction: The Council is asked to schedule a joint meeting with the Telecommunications Advisory Commission, and also hold a workshop to discuss Public Works issues on Tuesday, March 24. Background: There is a need to have Council meet to discuss a couple of items outside of a regular City Council meeting: 1. Joint meeting with the Telecommunications Advisory Commission. Changes in accounting standards with which the City must comply should be reviewed with the TAC and the City Council. These changes will have an impact on the way the T AC has operated previously. In addition, the Public Works Director has a desire to review Geographic Information Systems (GIS), which will be of interest to both the City Council and T AC members. 2. Several Public Works issues in addition to GIS (above) should be discussed with the City Council at a workshop to follow the joint T AC meeting. Those issues include the discussion of street sweeping policies, a recently completed organizational study, and an update on other Public Works projects. It is estimated that 45-60 minutes will be needed for the joint T AC meeting and approximately 90 minutes for Public Works information. In reviewing the attached calendar, we suggest Tuesday, March 24,2009. This would give the T AC the opportunity to discuss changes prior to their regularly scheduled March meeting. Relationship to Visioning: This supports Goal D, (Vibrant, Resilient, and Stable). Recommendation: I recommend that a Joint meeting with the TAC, and City Council workshop be scheduled for Tuesday, March 24th. Action Required: If the Council concurs, it should, by motion, establish a joint meeting with the T AC and City Council Workshop for Tuesday, March 24,2009 at 7:00 pm in the City Council Chambers. r .1>>--Q ~ Mark McNeill City Administrator MM:cn CC: Kris Wilson Bruce Loney
