SUBJECT: Authorization to fill Police Records Technician Position
DATE: January 16, 2009
INTRODUCTION:
The City Council is asked to authorize the promotion of Community Service Officer Alison
Burstein to fill the position of Police Records Technician, effective February 2,2009.
BACKGROUND:
The Police Department currently has one vacancy in its authorized staff of four Records
Technicians. The Civil Service Commission has conducted the necessary testing for the position
and certified an eligible register. The top three candidates on the eligible register are listed
below in alphabetical order:
Jennifer L. Boudreau
Donna M. Brown
Alison I. Burstein
RECOMMENDATION:
Chief Hughes recommends that Alison Burstein be promoted to the position of Records
Technician. Since December of 2006, Ms. Burstein has been employed by the City as a
Community Service Officer. Because she is a current Department employee, no further pre-
employment screenings are necessary.
RELATIONSHIP TO VISION:
A Police Department that is fully staffed with qualified individuals contributes to a high quality
oflife for Shakopee residents (Goal B).
REQUESTED ACTION:
If the Council concurs, it should offer a motion to appoint Alison Burstein to the position of
Records Technician at Grade 3, Step D ofthe non-union pay plan, effective February 2, 2009
and subject to a six month probationary period.
