FROM: John Peterson, Telecommunications Coordinator
SUBJECT: Release of Surplus Equipment
DATE: December 10, 2008
Introduction
The City Council is asked to declare the telecommunication equipment on the attached list
surplus property and authorize sale, donation or appropriate disposal of these items.
Background
In preparation for downsizing Shakopee Public Access operations, staffhas identified numerous
items and pieces of equipment currently stored at the public access studio that are no longer used
by staff or the public. Last month the Council declared one such list of items as surplus property.
This agenda items reflects a second list of items, which staff wanted to review with the
Telecommunications Advisory Commission (TAC) prior to seeking Council authorization to
dispose of. . The T AC has now reviewed this list of items and recommends that they be sold,
donated or disposed of according to their condition and market value. Staff plans to follow its
regular process of offering the items first to the Shakopee School District, then to other cities,
school districts and public access facilities, and then to individual users of the Shakopee Public
Access facility. Items not purchased by or donated to any of these groups will be recycled or
otherwise properly disposed of.
Action Requested
If Council concurs, it should offer a motion to declare items on the attached list surplus property
and authorize staff to arrange for their sale, donation or disposal.
