Mark McNeill, City Administrator From: Sherry Dvorak, Recreation Supervisor Meeting Date: December 16, 2008 Subject: Acceptance of Donation from RMS Electronics Inc, Resolution No. 6850 INTRODUCTION City Council is asked to adopt Resolution No. 6850, a resolution of the City of Shakopee, Minnesota, accepting a stainless steel commercial grade upright freezer and two stainless steel commercial grade food carts from the RMS Electronics Inc. RMS Electronics Inc is owned and operated by Bill Schleper. BACKGROUND AND DISCUSSION The City has received a donation from the RMS Electronics Inc. of a commercial grade freezer and two commercial grade food carts to be used in the Joe Schleper Stadium 'concession stand. Total value of the property being donated is approximately $1700.00. The City of Shakopee appreciates the generosity of the RMS Electronics Inc., which helps support the City's parks and recreation services, specifically activities taking place at Joe Schleper Stadium. The City's donation policy requires a 2/3 vote to accept cash donations over $1,000 and donations of real property. RELATIONSHIP TO VISION D. Vibrant, resilient and stable REQUESTED ACTION City Council is asked to, by motion: 1. Adopt Resolution No. 6850, a resolution of the City of Shakopee, Minnesota, accepting a stainless steel commercial grade upright freezer and two stainless steel commercial grade food cards from the RMS Electronics Inc. RESOLUTION NO. 6850 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF SHAKOPEE, MINNESOTA ACCEPTING A DONATION OF FREEZER AND CONCESSION FOOD CARTS FROM RMS ELECTRONICS, INC. WHEREAS, on November 6, 2002, the City Council adopted Resolution No, 5794, which established procedure relating to the receipt of gifts and donations by the City; and WHEREAS, Resolution No. 5794 specifies that donations of real property shall be accepted by resolution of the City Council, and shall require a two-thirds majority of the Council for acceptance; and WHEREAS, RMS ELECTRONICS have generously given a donation of a commercial grade freezer and concession food carts valued in the amount of $1,700; and WHEREAS, such a donation will help improve park facilities and enhance the overall quality of like in Shakopee. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SHAKOPEE, MINNESOTA, that the property donation is gratefully accepted; and FURTHER, the property donation shall be used for concession operations at Joe Schleper Stadium, which is consistent with the wishes of the donor. FURTHER, the City staff is directed to send a letter to the donor, acknowledging receipt of the gift and expressing the appreciation of the City Council.
