Memorandum TO: Mayor and City Council c.nl~~~~~'" Mark McNeill, City Administrator lh,~tJ~ I FROM: Michael Hullander, Public Works Superintendent RE: Squad Car Purchases DATE: December 2, 2008 Introduction Council is requested to authorize the purchase of five squad cars. As provided in the 2009 budget. Background The 2009 budget includes an appropriation of $190,000 for the purchase of five squad cars. Funding is from the Capital Equipment Internal Service Fund. The vendor cost for squad cars last year was $23,979.00 each, including extended warranty. The new cars will replace five models purchased in 2005. The Police Department is requesting three marked and two unmarked patrol vehicles. Most of the equipment from the 2005 squads will transfer into the new units. Two new radar units, one rear seat, one ticket writer, and five camera's will be added along with some miscellaneous lights and wiring for an equipment cost of approximately $34,200.00 for the five squads. Labor to set up is estimated to be $5,120 each. The City mechanic recommends an extended warranty of 4 Yrs/100,000 miles with a $50.00 deductible. The warranty is recommended due to axle and transmission problems in the past. The State of Minnesota contract was awarded as shown below. Options listed are as requested by the department and are at manufacturer-to-dealer invoice pricing.
