Memorandum TO: Mayor and City Council CONSEtvT Mark McNeill, City Administrator FROM: Kris Wilson, Assistant City Administrato~\rtU) SUBJECT: Adoption of Resolutions of Appreciation for Former Firefighters DATE: October 2, 2008 Introduction I Background The Council is asked to adopt the attached resolutions recognizing the contributions of firefighter Ken Berg, who retired late last year, and Bob Latzke, who passed away last year, Once adopted by the Council, the Resolutions will be framed and presented by the Mayor during the Relief Association's annual banquet on October 11. Requested Action: If the Council concurs, it should offer RESOLUTION NO, 6822, A RESOLUTION OF APPRECIATION TO KENNETH D, BERG and RESOLUTION NO. 6824, A RESOLUTION OF APPRECIATION FOR ROBERT J. LATZKE; and move their adoption. ~ RESOLUTION NO. 6822 A RESOLUTION OF APPRECIATION TO KENNETH D, BERG WHEREAS, the residents of the City of Shakopee have had the fortune of having the services of capable and dedicated firefighters available for the past 125 years; and WHEREAS, those individuals who are members of the City's Fire Department devote many hours of their time for training, practice, and responding to fires within the City and surrounding areas; and WHEREAS, Kenneth D. Berg was a member of the Shakopee Fire Department for 25 years; and WHEREAS, Ken diligently and unselfishly served the residents of the City of Shakopee while a member of the Shakopee Fire Department; and WHEREAS, Ken took special responsibility for the maintenance and inspection ofthe Department's Self-Contained Breathing Apparatuses, thereby ensuring the safety and welfare of his fellow firefighters; and WHEREAS, Ken faithfully responded to numerous fire and emergency calls regardless of the untimeliness of said calls and personal and family disruptions; and WHEREAS, on many occasions Ken put the health, safety and welfare of Shakopee residents ahead of his own personal safety. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council of the City of Shakopee hereby extends its token of thanks and appreciation to Mr, Kenneth D, Berg for his 25 years of service to the Shakopee Fire Department and the community at large. Adopted in regular session of the City Council of the City of Shakopee, held this 7th day of October, 2008. Mayor of the City of Shakopee ATTEST: City Clerk RESOLUTION NO. 6824 A RESOLUTION OF APPRECIATION FOR ROBERT J, LATZKE WHEREAS, the residents of the City of Shako pee have had the fortune of having the services of capable and dedicated firefighters available for the past 125 years; and WHEREAS, those individuals who are members of the City's Fire Department devote many hours of their time for training, practice, and responding to fires within the City and surrounding areas; and WHEREAS, Robert J, Latzke was a member ofthe Shakopee Fire Department for 28 years; and WHEREAS, Bob diligently and unselfishly served the residents of the City of Shakopee while a member of the Shakopee Fire Department; and WHEREAS, Bob served as the Department's Engineer for many years, ensuring that all trucks and equipment were properly maintained and ready for use when a call came; and WHEREAS, Bob faithfully responded to numerous fire and emergency calls regardless of the untimeliness of said calls and personal and family disruptions; and WHEREAS, on many occasions Bob put the health, safety and welfare of Shakopee residents ahead of his own personal safety; and WHEREAS, Bob passed away suddenly on January 5,2007, in a tragic and untimely loss for his family and the Department; and WHEREAS, Bob will long be remembered and appreciated for his service to the community and his willingness to help his fellow firefighters in times of need, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council of the City of Shako pee hereby extends its token of thanks and appreciation for Mr, Robert J. Latzke's 28 years of service to the Shakopee Fire Department and the community at large. Adopted in regular session of the City Council of the City of Shakopee, held this 7th day of October, 2008.
