SHOI'EE TO: Mayor and City Council FROM: Alex Sharpe, Planner DATE: 06/16/2015 SUBJECT: HKGI Presentation on Western Shakopee Land Use Study Action Sought The City Council is asked to provide input and feedback on the early stages of the land use study for the western edge of the City. Background On April 7, the City Council approved hiring Hoisinger Koegler Group (HKGI) and SRF Consulting Group to complete a land use study for the western Shakopee/Jackson Township area. The study area is 834.5 acres -- with 554 acres currently in the City of Shakopee and 280.5 acres in Jackson Township. HKGI and City staff have been gathering preliminary data to inform this study, which is scheduled for completion in October 2015. The data gathering has included market analysis of existing land uses and vacant developable land in Shakopee and is now moving to conversations and meetings with property owners and their representatives, Jackson Township, and the City Council. Consultants from HKGI will be present at the Council meeting to present an overview of its early findings and gather Council input into the study. Recommendation There is no recommended or requested action at this time other than to provide input to the consultants from HKGI. Budget Impact N/A Relationship to Vision This study relates to Goal B: Positively manage the challenges and opportunities present by growth development and change. Requested Action The Council is asked to review the base information presented by HKGI and respond with Council input and direction.
