Cox, City Clerk SUBJECT: Request to Operate Additional Vehicles - Tri Taxi, Inc. DATE: August 1, 2008 INTRODUCTION: City Council is asked to hold a public hearing and take action on a request from Randy Busch, Tri Taxi, Inc. , to increase the number of taxicabs that he is licensed to operate from one to three. BACKGROUND: Mr. Busch currently has a taxicab license to operate one vehicle. Mr. Busch desires to increase his license to allow for the operation of three vehicles. The two additional vehicles requested to be added to the license have been inspected by Scott Swanson, Minnesota Department of Transportation, and taximeters have been installed. Mr. Busch has not yet provided an acceptable certificate of insurance, but is working with his insurance company on it. Pursuant to the City Code, notice of the required public hearing has been given to the applicant and to all licensees (Oscar Salas dba Shakopee Taxi and Timothy Dressen, Jr. dba TNT Taxi) and notice has been published in the City's official newspaper. ALTERNATIVES: 1. Approve request (if acceptable certificate of insurance is provided) 2. Deny request 3. Table request (to give Mr. Busch additional time to obtain a certificate of insurance) Request to Operate Additional Vehicles - Tri Taxi., Inc. August 1, 2008 Page -2- RECOMMENDED ACTION: After holding a public hearing and if Council concurs: 1. If an acceptable certificate of insurance has been provided: Approve the operation of two additional vehicles, bringing the total to three, by Tri Taxi, Inc. , 823 Cortland Circle. OR 2. The problem tbe City Clerk sights lies within the naming of said insurance pOlicy. All information on tbe policy shows correct vehicle VJN numben and coverage's aceepublc to tbe city. The only i88ue is with the Dame on tbe policy. CaD the City amend our current htxi license to read Soutbwest Metro Transportation to satisfy the City Clerks naming bsues? It has been suggested tbat we fill out a new application and pay all eosts to show the parent company name. We feel this would get elr.penslve slDee we are only a rew short month, away from our yearly renewal.
