SUBJECT: Declaring the Donation of $3,000.00 from The Toro Company to the City
of Shako pee as part of Minnesota's Sesquicentennial Celebration
MEETING DATE: August 6, 2008
INTRODUCTION:
The Minnesota Sesquicentennial Commission has informed the City that we were rewarded with a
$3,000.00 donation from The Toro Company to help fund activities and events related to the celebration of
Minnesota's Sesquicentennial. The Toro Company has generously provided this donation to communities
in which they have business plants in operation.
In the event that the Council approves the donation, in part based on the notion that celebration of
Minnesota's Sesquicentennial will increase interests in and visits to the community, City staffwill work
with the Minnesota Sesquicentennial Commission on a program that details what events/materials this
money will be used for.
In compliance with Resolution No. 5794, which specifies that cash donations of over $1,000.00 be accepted
by resolution of the City Council, this resolution is being offered for the Council's consideration.
AL TERNA TIVES:
1. Adopt Resolution No. 6794, a resolution approving a $3,000.00 donation from The Toro
Company to the City of Shakopee for use relative to the Minnesota Sesquicentennial
Celebration.
2. Adopt Resolution No.6794, with modifications.

STAFF RECOMMENDATION:
Staff recommends Alternative 1; adopt Resolution No.6794, a resolution approving a $3,000.00
donation from The Toro Company to the City of Shako pee for use relative to the Minnesota
Sesquicentennial Celebration.
ACTION REQUESTED:
Offer Resolution No. 6794, a resolution approving a $3,000.00 donation from The Toro
Company to the City of Shakopee for use relative to the Minnesota Sesquicentennial Celebration,
and move its adoption. ~

RESOLUTION NO. 6794
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF SHAKOPEE ACCEPTING THE DONATION OF $3,000.00
FROM THE TORO COMPANY TO THE CITY OF SHAKOPEE FOR USE RELATIVE TO THE
MINNESOTA SESQUICENTENNIAL CELEBRATION
WHEREAS, On November 6, 2002, the City Council adopted Resolution No. 5794, which
established procedure relating to the receipt of gifts and donations by the City; and
WHEREAS, Resolution No. 5794 specifies that cash donations of over $1,000.00 shall be accepted
by resolution of the City Council, and shall require a two-thirds majority of the Council for acceptance; and
WHEREAS, The Toro Company has donated $3,000.00 to the City of Shakopee for use
relative to the Minnesota Sesquicentennial Celebration; and
WHEREAS, such a donation will enhance the history and overall quality oflife in
Shakopee;and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
SHAKOPEE, MINNESOTA, that The Toro Company donation in the amount of $3,000.00 be gratefully
accepted; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SHAKOPEE,
MINNESOTA, that City staff is directed to send a letter to The Toro Company, acknowledging receipt of
the gift and expressing the appreciation of the City Council.
Adopted in session of the City Council of the City of Shakopee, Minnesota, held the
