DATE: June 25, 2008
INTRODUCTION:
The Council is asked to appoint Jerry Poole to the Police Civil Service Commission.
BACKGROUND:
The Police Civil Service Commission is composed ofthree members and currently has a
vacancy for the unexpired term of Tom Steininger.
On June 17th an interview panel consisting of Councilors Heitzman and Clay and Police
Civil Service Commission Vice Chair Carol Schultz interviewed a total of 6 applicants.

The panel recommends that Jerry Poole be appointed to fill the unexpired term on the
Police Civil Service Commission, which will expire February 28,2010.
The adopted Guidelines for Appointments to Boards and Commissions prohibits
permanent full-time or part-time City of Shakopee employees from holding a regular
voting position on any board or commission. Mr. Poole does work for the City
occasionally as a seasonal employee. This does not disqualify him from serving on a
City board or commission.
