From: Jamie Polley, Parks, Recreation, and Natural Resources Dir.
Travis Karlen, Recreation Supervisor
Meeting Date: July 1,2008
Subject: Surplus Property
INTRODUCTION
The Shakopee Parks and Recreation Department is seeking council approval to
declare the old slide pump as surplus property with credit from the sale going
toward pump repair and ongoing pump maintenance at Shakopee SandVenture
Aquatic Park.
BACKGROUND AND DISCUSSION
At the June 1 ih Council meeting staff brought a proposal to surplus the old slide
pump and turn the pump over to Electric Pump for a $250.00 credit. Council
tabled the surplus topic at that meeting and directed staff to get other opinions
and quotes on the slide pump.
The Shakopee Parks and Recreation Department has utilized the slide pump at
the Shakopee SandVenture Aquatic Park along with the old slide which was
removed from the park earlier this spring.
The new slide has a new pump and new chamber where it will be housed. The
old pump does not have any purpose at the Aquatic Park.
We have been offered $250.00 credit from Electric Pump out of Bloomington for
the pump. Electric Pump currently does all of our maintenance on the pool
pumps and filtration system. This credit could be used for maintenance and
upkeep on the remaining pool pump or the new slide pump.
With Council's direction, staff also called W.W. Goetsch to find out their opinion
on the value. They said because of the size and age of the pump, they are not
able to offer the city anything for the pump. They claimed it was not worth
anything.
VISIONING RELATIONSHIP
Goal E: Financially Strong
REQUESTED ACTION
The City Council is asked to review the recommendation from the June 1 ih
meeting to surplus the old slide pump. If Council concurs, approve to declare the
slide pump as surplus and turn the pump over to Electric Pump for credit of
$250.00.
