5. F. 5.
CITY OF SHAKO PEE CONSENT
Memorandum
TO: Mayor and City Council
FROM: Mark McNeill, City Administrator
SUBJECT: Derby Days Sidewalk Sales
DATE: June 12,2008
Comment:
Introduction:
Council has asked to authorize sidewalks sales in conjunction with Derby Days, which
will beheld July 31 st_August 2nd.
Background:
Traditionally downtown merchants have had sidewalk sales in conjunction with Derby
Days. Unlike previous years, Derby Days is not making the request for this, but instead
has elected to have individual store owners be responsible for making the requests
Instead of relying on individual requests, I spoke with the Shakopee Downtown
Partnership. They indicate that sidewalks should be authorized in the same locations as
they have been previously. These would be:
First A venue between Sommerville and Holmes;
100 block of Holmes;
100 block of Lewis Street.
The Coffee Bean Cafe, 238 South Lewis Street
Recommendation:
I recommend that the sidewalk sales be authorized with the above locations, for July 31 st_
August 2nd, 2008, during business hours.
Relationship to Visioning:
This supports Goal B (High Quality of Life).
Action Required:
If the Council concurs, it should, by motion, authorize sidewalk sales to be held in
conjunction with Derby Days July 31-August 2nd, for the 100 blocks of Lewis and
Holmes Street, First A venue from Holmes to Sommerville Street, and 238 South Lewis
Street.
