s.o./,
CITY OF SHAKOPEE
MEMORANDUM
TO: Mayor & City Council CONSEt~T
Mark McNeill, City Administrator
Bruce Loney, Public Works Director
FROM: Michael Hul1ander, Public Works Superintendent
DATE: June 17,2008
SUBJECT: Sanitary Sewer Television Inspection
INTRODUCTION:
Public Works has received four quotes for the television inspection of 60,000 linear feet
of main line sewer.
BACKGROUND:
In 2005, City Council approved a formal policy for the inspection and maintenance of the
sanitary sewer system. Part of that policy requires the television inspection of sanitary
sewer mains every 10 years. Staff is requesting to televise 60,000 linear feet which is
10% of the City's system. Television inspection allows staff to identify any defects such
as tree root growth, off-set joints, protruding taps, sags, and cracks which could
potentially cause a blockage or collapse in the system.
Staff will have all remaining clay sanitary sewer main televised along with areas where
current problems exist. Televising the remaining clay pipe will assist engineering in
identifying potentia11ining projects.
Staff has received three quotes and is requesting council authorization to approve and
accept the low quote from Visu-Sewer Clean & Seal, Inc. for the quoted price of $0.38
per linear foot. The total cost for televising 60,000 linear feet is $22.800.00.
Vendor Cost Der foot
Visu-Sewer Clean & Seal, Inc. $0.38
Hydro- V ac, Inc. $0.385
Pipe Services $0.48
Veit $0.65
ALTERNATIVES:
1. Accept the low quote from Visu-Sewer Clean & Seal, Inc. for $0.38 per linear
foot to televise 60,000 linear feet of sanitary sewer mains.
2. Deny the request and do not accept the low quote.
3. Table for additional information.
RECOMMENDATION:
Staff recommends alternative No.1.
ACTION REOUESTED:
Authorize staff to contract with Visu-Sewer Clean & Seal, Inc. for the television
inspection of 60,000 linear feet of sanitary sewer main at a cost of $0.38 per linear foot
with funding to be expended from the Sanitary Sewer Fund.
