SUBJECT: Request to accept CenterPoint Energy Donation by
Resolution No. 6784

INTRODUCTION:
The City Council is asked to offer Resolution No. 6784, to accept $2,400 from
CenterPoint Energy for the purchase of a new defibrillator.
BACKGROUND:
CenterPoint Energy is committed to partnering with the public sector and has graciously
offered to purchase the police department a new defibrillator. This is a valuable piece of
equipment that has already helped save multiple lives in Shakopee. A representative
from CenterPoint Energy will be in attendance at the meeting to make a presentation.

Strategy 10: Ensure City's fiscal health
ALTERNATIVES:
1. Offer Resolution No. 6784.
2. Do not offer Resolution No. 6784.
3. Table and provide direction to staff.
RECOMMENDATION:
Staff recommends alternative #1.
ACTION REQUESTED:
The City Council, ifthey concur, should offer Resolution No. 6784, a Resolution ofthe
City of Shakopee, Minnesota, Accepting $2,400 from CenterPoint Energy, and move its
adoption.
RESOLUTION NO. 6784
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF SHAKOPEE, MINNESOTA,
ACCEPTING $2,400 FROM CENTERPOINT ENERGY.
WHEREAS, on November 6, 2002, the City Council adopted Resolution No.
5794, which established procedure relating to the receipt of gifts and donations by the
City; and
WHEREAS, Resolution No. 5794 specifies that donations valued at more than
$1,000 shall be accepted by resolution of the City Council, and shall require a two-thirds
majority of the Council for acceptance; and
WHEREAS, CenterPoint Energy has graciously donated $2,400 to the Shakopee
Police Department for the purchase of a new defibrillator.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF SHAKOPEE, MINNESOTA, that the donation of $2,400 is gratefully
accepted; and
FURTHER, that City staff is directed to send a letter to the donor, acknowledging
receipt of the gift and expressing the appreciation of the City Council.
Adopted in adjourned regular session ofthe City Council of the City of Shakopee,
Minnesota, held this 17th day of June, 2008.
