CITY OF SHAKOPEE Memorandum TO: Mayor and City Council FROM: Mark McNeill, City Administrator SUBJECT: US 169 Steering Committee Appointment DATE: June 9, 2008 Comment: Introduction: The Council has asked to appoint a Shakop~e representative and an alternate to serve on the US 169 Highway Task Force Steering Committee. Background: On June 5th, Mayor Schmitt, Councilors Lehman and Heitzman, Community Development Director Michael Leek, and I.attended an inaugural meeting of a US 169 Task Force near Jordan. There was good Tdance; there appeared to be eleven cities, counties or other jurisdictions in attendanc , in addition to seven state legislators, and MNDOT and country staff or technical peo . Ie. The organizers gave a broad overview of i provements needed for congestion relief for US 169. Cited was a 169 study that has bee. performed by MNDOT, for a corridor starting in Mankato, extending through Sco t County, and terminating at the I-494 intersection. However, there was a brief dis I ussion at the June 5th meeting about extending that corridor north to Highway 610. The one action item that came about from t e meeting was a request for each jurisdiction to make it appointment to a Steering Comm ttee, to look at issues relating to 169. Our experience would other appointments such s this is that an elected official would be the regular member, and a staff member would e the alternate. It is anticipated that much of the initial work will be political in nature, s~h as establishing the scope of the study, beginning discussion on funding needs, and I he like. While both Mr. Leek and Public Works Lonby will be available for technical input, I would be happy to be considered for the app~intment as the alternate representative. The Council should make a decision as to which lected official should serve as the regular member. Recommendation: The Council should make an appointment 0 both the regular and alternate member for the Steering Committee. It was requested i this be forwarded to the City of Jordan by Friday, June 13th. Relationship to Visioning: This supports Goals B (High Quality of Life) and D (Vibrant, Resilient & Stable). Action Required: The Council should, by motion, appoint a regular and alternate representative to the Highway 169 Steering Committee. 1Jv& iVL~UUu Mark McNeill City Administrator MM:cn TH 169 Study Home - Overview Page I of 2 ~~I HIGHWAY 169 CORRI DOR PLAN i, ii t .~"~,, ,....." =,~" oo..,m, 'MOB "rom ~ 'I a a ~ ~ ~ I '?-",,~ TH 169STIJOYHOME .... iRe "h"~".__f.,~~ INTRODU(TION HIGHWAY 169 nil CORRIDOR PLAN l~~ ,.494 TO MANKATO OVIIVI:W . long-term Manag?ment Plan Developed for Hiqhwav 169 ... liackgrQ!Jllij .
