INTRODUCTION
The Shakopee Police Department is asking: council to schedule a work session with the
Police. Services Master.Planning Task Force.
BACKGROUND
On September 18, 2007, Council approved a resolution to establish a Police Services
Master Planning Task Force. The purpose of the task force was to develop an affordable
plan that involved the whole communitylooking at today's policing issues and
anticipating tomorrow's policing concerns.
On November 7, 2007, by resolution, the Council impaneled a ten member task force.
The Police Service Master Planning Task Force was .established: for a period ending,. on or
before, August 31, 2008, and directed to submit a proposed Police Services Master Plan
to the City Council. At this time the Police Services Master Planning Task Force is
prepared to submit .their findings to City Council. It is anticipated that approximately an
hour's time will be needed to present the findings.
{City Administrator note:. In order for this presentation to be made prior to the City
Council's meeting with Sp~ingsted to consider prioritization of City services, the Task
Force workshop could be Thursday, June 12th. Elsewhere on this agenda is a proposal to
meet with Springsted on Monday, June 16th.)

ALTERNATIVES
1. Authorize staff to schedule a work session with the Police Services Master
Planning Task Force, to be held 7 p.m., Thursday, June 12th.
2. Do not authorize.
RECOMMENDATION
Staff recommends Alternative 1.
ACTION REQUESTED
If Council concurs, they should-make a motion and schedule a work session with the
Police. Services Master Planning Task Force at 7 p.m.,Thursday, June 12~`.
