HomeMy WebLinkAbout5.F.5. Surplus Property v' CITY OF SHAKOPEE - ` ` Memorandum TO: Mayor and City Council Mark McNeill, City Administrator FROM: Judith S. Cox, City Clerk SUBJECT: Surplus Property DATE: May 1, 2008 INTRODUCTION: The City Council is asked to declare election booths as surplus property and authorize the appropriate disposal of them. BACKGROUND: The city has been purchasing single voting booths over the past few years to accommodate the growing population of voters and to replace the three and four stall aluminum voting booths, some of which have been around for more than thirty years. The single voting booths are more easily stored and assembled and more efficient for public works to transport and assemble on election days. After this years budgeted purchase of single voting booths, the city will have 140 voting booths to accommodate the 12 polling places. Staff would like to keep three 4-stall booths and dispose of 12 4-stall booths and 9 3-stall booths. There is no need to continue to store all of the aluminum voting booths that are no longer being used. It is appropriate to declare the voting booths as surplus property and dispose of them. 2008 is a presidential election year and this would be a good time to make them available to other election jurisdictions who might be interested in them. RECOMMENDED ACTION: Declare 12 4-stall and 9 3-stall voting booths as surplus property and authorize appropriate disposal. h:\judy\voting booths
