Civil Defense Siren Purchase s~,~, CITY OF SHAKOPEE Police Department Memorandum To: Honorable Mayor, City Council Mark McNeill, City Administrator From: Craig Robson, Captain Subject: Civil Defense Siren Purchase Date: May 06, 2008 INTRODUCTION The Shakopee Police Department is seeking council approval to purchase a civil defense siren to replace an existing non-functional one. BACKGROUND The civil defense siren at the intersection of CR 16 and Mulenhardt Rd took a lightning strike recently and was rendered inoperable. This siren is approximately thirty years old and is impractical to repair. The city anticipates insurance coverage for the loss and will be responsible fora $2500 deductible BUDGET IMPACT Although vendors are limited two quotes were received, one from Frontline Plus Fire & Rescue and one from Fesler's Inc. Frontline Plus submitted the lower quote and they have proven to be a fair and dependable supplier of civil defense sirens in the past. Authorize staff to purchase a replacement civil defense siren. 2. Do not authorize. RECOMMENDATION Staff recommends alternative one. ACTION REQUESTED If council concurs, they should by motion: approve the purchase of a replacement civil defense siren in the amount of $20,592.84 from Frontline Plus Fire & Rescue.
