SHAKOPEE TO: Mayor and City Council FROM: Bruce Loney, Public Works Director DATE: 04/07/2015 SUBJECT: Adopt a Resolution Supporting Dedicated State Funding for City Streets, Res. No. 7564 (E) Action Sought Adopt Resolution No. 7564, a resolution supporting dedicated state funding for city streets. Background The League of Minnesota Cities (LMC) is requesting support resolutions for state funding of city streets in the omnibus transportation funding bill. This resolution would show city support for this bill. This additional funding could be used for non-municipal state aid, city street maintenance, construction and reconstruction. The LMC has made city street funding one of its 2015 legislative priorities. Difficulty of assessing improvements to existing streets, and raising the levy for cities with levy limits are reasons to support this legislation and resolution. Recommendation Staff would recommend adoption of Resolution No. 7564 as funding city streets is important to the overall transportation system. Budget Impact No impact for 2015. However, could affect future street budgets with additional funding. Relationship to Vision This supports Goal D: Maintain, improve and create strong partnerships with other public and private sector entities. Requested Action Adopt Resolution No. 7564, a resolution supporting dedicated street funding for city streets. Attachments: Res.
