SUBJECT: Permission to Serve Beer&Wine in City Park

Action Requested
The Council is asked to grant permission for beer and wine to be served and consumed in a special event
tent within Memorial Park on the evening of June 17, 2015.
Background
The Shakopee Chamber of Commerce is celebrating its 60th anniversary this spring and plans to have a
special open house for members on June 17, 2015. The Chamber will be obtaining a permit from the
Parks& Rec Department to put up a tent in Memorial Park for this event. They would like to be able to
have their caterer serve beer and wine during this event, which will run from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. The City
Code only allows beer and wine to be served outside of a picnic, grandstand or shelter with specific
permission from the City Council. (See City Code Section 4.02,Subd. 16,which is attached.) Therefore,
the Council is asked to grant this permission.
Recommendation
Staff recommends approval of this request.
Budget Impact
This action has no budgetary impact for the City.

This is a housekeeping item.
Requested Action
The Council is asked to grant permission for beer and wine to be served by a licensed caterer and
consumed by guests at the Chamber of Commerce's 60th Anniversary Open House,to be held from 4:00
to 7:00 p.m. on June 17, 2015 in a special event tent within Memorial Park.
