SHAKOPEE TO: Mayor and City Council FROM: Bruce Loney, Public Works Director DATE: 04/21/2015 SUBJECT: Approval of Quotes for Modifying the Signal at Southbridge Parkway & Old Carriage Court North (E) Action Sought To approve a motion approving the quote of Granite Ledge Electrical Contractors, Inc. for the signal modification project at Southbridge Parkway & Old Carriage Court North. Background With the approval of the Aldi development, a traffic study was required on the impacts to the roadways and signal at Southbridge Parkway & Old Carriage Court North. Staff authorized WSB & Associates, Inc. to review the traffic study and to design modifications to the signal system for efficient operations. WSB has designed the signal modifications to address the Aldi impacts and to improve the overall operation. The main improvements will be the addition of flashing yellow arrows to all legs of the intersection as well as timing adjustments. Quotes were received from three contractors as follows: CONTRACTOR BID AMOUNT (Granite Ledge Electric $34,667.89 Design Electric . . ($42,420.00 E anCom Company P Y ..,. ,.. $44,750.00 A new signal cabinet is also required and will be purchased by the City estimated at $20,719.00. The total project cost using the low quote of Granite Ledge Electric and the cabinet cost is $55,386.89. Of this project cost, Aldi's will contribute an amount to be determined. The rest of the funding will be out of the Capital Improvement fund. Recommendation Staff recommends to approve the quote from Granite Ledge Electric and to authorize staff to purchase the control cabinet for the signal modification project at Southbridge Parkway and Old Carriage Court North. Budget Impact This project is being funded by the Capital Improvement fund and a contribution from Aldi's. Relationship to Vision This supports Goal E: Deliver effective and efficient public services by a staff of well-trained, caring, and professional employees.
