SHAKOPEE TO: Mayor and City Council FROM: Chris Dellwo, Captain DATE: 03/17/2015 SUBJECT: Declare Firearms and Accessories as Surplus Property (F) Action Sought The police department is seeking Council approval to declare seventeen firearms and five optics as surplus property and authorize its disposal. Background The police department is requesting the following items be declared as surplus: 1. Five Colt A15 .223 Rifles 2. Two H&K MP5 Submachine Guns 3. Nine Remington 870 12 Gauge Shotguns 4. One Remington Model 700 .308 Rifle 5. Five Trijicon RX30 Optics The above firearms and optics were purchased by the police department over the years and have been taken out of service as they have exceeded there useful life expectancy and are no longer functioning at an acceptable level. The firearms will be traded to licensed federal firearms dealers in exchange for upgraded firearms and accessories as has been past practice. Optics will be sold at auction. Relationship to Vision This is a housekeeping item (F) Requested Action If Council concurs, they should, by motion, declare the seventeen firearms and five optics as surplus property and authorize its disposal. SHAKOPEE TO: Mayor and City Council FROM: Mike Hullander, Public Works Superintendent DATE: 03/17/2015 SUBJECT: Purchase of Garbage Truck for Park Maintenance Division (E) Action Sought Move to authorize staff to purchase a Cab & Chassis from Astleford Equipment, Inc. for $47,141.00 and to purchase a Refuse Packer with Accessories from McQueen Equipment Inc. for $58,827.20 with trade-in. The total purchase price of $105,968.20 to be expended from the Capital Equipment Internal Service Fund. Background The Public Works Department identified a need in the 2015 Capital Equipment Budget to replace existing unit #122, a 2000 Isuzu Garbage Truck. This truck is used three times a week for Park and Downtown refuse pick-up. This truck is also used on weekends for special events, picnic shelter rentals and athletic tournaments. Staff has received two quotes for the Cab and Chassis and is recommending accepting the low quote from Astleford Equipment, Inc. for the price of$47,141.00. Staff is recommending using NJPA Contract Pricing # 17959 for the purchase of a Refuse Packer and Accessories from McQueen Equipment, Inc. for the price of $58,827.20. The combined price for this purchase is $105,968.20 with the funds to be expended from the Capital Equipment Internal Service Fund. Recommendation Staff recommends Council authorize this purchase. Budget Impact Funding has been allocated in the 2015 Capital Equipment Budget. Relationship to Vision E.
