SUBJECT: Approve Plans and Order Ad for Bids for the 2015 Street
Reconstruction Project No. 2015-1, Res. No. 7555 (E)
Action Sought
The Council is asked to offer Resolution No. 7555, A Resolution Approving Plans
and Specifications and Ordering Advertisement for Bids for the 2015 Street
Reconstruction, Project No. 2015-1, and move its adoption.
Background
On January 6, 2015, Council adopted Resolution No. 7534, a resolution receiving a
report and calling for a public hearing on the 2015 Street Reconstruction Project.
On Feb. 3, 2015, a public hearing was held and at that meeting, the Council adopted
Resolution No. 7546, a resolution ordering the improvements and the preparation of
plans and specifications for this project.
Staff has completed plans for the project and now requests Council approval of the
plans and authorization to advertise for bids, with the intent to have the bids be
considered at the April 21, 2015 Council meeting for the work to be done yet this
summer. Due to Chapter 429 requirements, the City must advertise the project for
21 days.
Recommendation
Staff recommends that the plans be approved and authorization to advertise for bids
be granted.
Budget Impact
The preliminary engineering report put the total estimated project cost (including
engineering) at $2,654,500. If the project is approved, it will be funded by the
Sanitary Sewer Fund, Storm Sewer Fund, special assessments, Shakopee Public
Utilities and the Capital Improvement Fund.
Relationship to Vision
This supports Goal E: Deliver effective and efficient public serves by a staff of
well trained, caring, and professional employees.

WHEREAS, pursuant to Resolution No. 7546 adopted by City Council on Feb. 3`d, 2015,
Bruce Loney, Public Works Director has prepared plans and specifications for improvements for the
2015 Street Reconstruction Project, which includes 7th Avenue from St. Marks Road to Apgar
Street, Shumway Street from 6th Avenue to 10th Avenue, Market Street from 7th Avenue to
11th Avenue and St. Marks Road by installation of sanitary sewer, watermain, storm sewer, street
reconstruction, concrete curb & gutter, aggregate base, bituminous paving, concrete sidewalk and
any appurtenant work and has presented such plans and specifications to the Council for approval.
NOW, THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF SHAKOPEE,MINNESOTA:
1. Such plans and specifications, a copy of which is on file and of record in the Office
of the City Engineer, are hereby approved.
2. The City Clerk shall prepare and cause to be inserted in the official paper and on
questcdn.com an advertisement for bids upon the making of such improvement under such
approved plans and specifications. The Advertisement for Bids shall be published as required by
law.
