Release of Surplus Equipment

Introduction
The City Council is asked to declare the office furniture on the attached list surplus property and
authorize sale of these items to the general public and/or appropriate disposal.
Background
The City has developed a rather large supply of outdated and unused office furniture, dating back
to the old police station on the second floor of what is now the Engineering Building. Many of
the items no longer meet the needs of City staff. For example, there are several old metal desks
that cannot accommodate a computer and keyboard. Weare reaching the point where we no
longer have the storage space to keep these items and/or what we are using as storage space
could be put to better use if it were cleaned out.
To dispose of these items, staff is recommending that we hold a City garage sale in conjunction
with our annual Clean-Up Day and the Arbor Day Tree Sale on April 26. While the furniture is
no longer useful to the City and would be sold at very low prices, there may be individuals or
small businesses in the community that could put it to good use. Items not sold on the 26th could
then be disposed of with the items collected through Clean-Up Day.
Action Requested
If Council concurs, it should offer a motion to declare items on the attached list surplus property
and authorize sale of these items to the general public, followed by disposal of items not sold.
