Per Mr. Vasek, the City of Shakopee needs to respond in writing on accepting the funding. BACKGROUND: The City, LS.D #720 and Scott County are interested in completing a trail connection on Fuller Street, from Vierling Drive to Appaloosa Avenue. Scott County has included $70,000.00 in the County's Transportation Improvement Program (TIP) and the LS.D. #720 was concerned about students walking or biking to school along this route. Staff did submit a cooperative agreement application to Mn/DOT for work on the T.H. 169 bridge to accommodate a trail. Mn/DOT has approved a maximum construction amount of$48,195.00 and to receive these funds, a project must be let by June 30, 2009. Mn/DOT is requesting that the City of Shakopee reply in writing on whether we would accept the funding. The purpose of this agenda item is to request from Council approval to submit a letter of acceptance. AL TERNA TIVES: 1. Approve a motion directing staff to submit a letter to Mn/DOT accepting the funding on T .H. 169 bridge at Fuller Street. 2. Do not accept the Mn/DOT funding on T.H. 169 bridge at Fuller Street. 3. Table for additional information. RECOMMENDATION: Staff would recommend Alternative No.1, to receive additional funding towards the Fuller Street Trail Project. ACTION REQUESTED: Approve a motion directing staff to submit a letter to Mn/DOT accepting the funding on T .H. 169 bridge at Fuller Street. ~?I Public Works Director BUpmp ENGR/2008-PROJECTS/2008-COUNCILIFUNDING- T,H 169-BRlDGE CITY OF SHAKO PEE Memorandum TO: Mayor & City Council Mark McNeill, City Administrator FROM: Bruce Loney, Public Works Director SUBJECT: Mn/DOT Funding for Fuller Street Trail Improvements DATE: March 18,2008 NON-AGENDA INFORMATIONAL ITEM: Attached is a letter from Robert Vasek, a Cooperative Agreement Engineer from Mn/DOT, notifying the City of Shakopee of funds available up to $48,195.00.
