SUBJECT: Acceptance of Laser Radar Donation, Resolution No. 7547
Action Sought
The Council is asked to adopt Resolution #7547, a resolution accepting the donation
of a Stalker Laser Radar, worth approximately $3,000, from the Minnesota
Department of Public Safety's Towards Zero Deaths campaign.
Background
Towards Zero Deaths is a grant-funded, traffic safety and impaired driving
prevention program involving law enforcement agencies throughout the state. The
Shakopee Police Department continues to receive grant funds through the Towards
Zero Deaths program, which are used to fund additional traffic enforcement during
our most active traveling times.
The Shakopee Police Department was recently awarded a Stalker XLR hand-held
Laser Radar for our outstanding performance, both coordinating and participating in
the program. The radar will be used to improve traffic enforcement in the City of
Shakopee.
Recommendation
Staff recommends adoption of Resolution #7547.
Budget Impact
This action has no budget impact.
Relationship to Vision
This action supports Goal A: Keep Shakopee a safe and healthy community where
residents can pursue active and quality lifestyles.
Requested Action
If the Council concurs, it should offer Resolution #7547, a Resolution of the City of
Shakopee, Minnesota, accepting the donation of a Stalker Laser Radar from the
Minnesota Department of Public Safety's Towards Zero Deaths program, and move
its adoption.

RESOLUTION NO. 7547
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF SHAKOPEE,MINNESOTA,
ACCEPTING THE DONATION OF A LASER RADAR FROM THE MINNESOTA
DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC SAFETY'S TOWARDS ZERO DEATH CAMPAIGN
WHEREAS, on November 6, 2002,the City Council adopted Resolution No.
5794,which established procedure relating to the receipt of gifts and donations by the
City; and
WHEREAS, Resolution No. 5794 specifies that donations valued at more than
$1,000 shall be accepted by resolution of the City Council, and shall require a two-thirds
majority of the Council for acceptance; and
WHEREAS,the Minnesota Department of Public Safety's Towards Zero Death
campaign has graciously donated a Laser Radar to the Shakopee Police Department to
improve traffic safety enforcement.
NOW, THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF SHAKOPEE,MINNESOTA,that the donation of a Laser Radar is gratefully
accepted; and
FURTHER,that City staff is directed to send a letter to the donor, acknowledging
receipt of the gift and expressing the appreciation of the City Council.
Adopted in adjourned regular session of the City Council of the City of Shakopee,
Minnesota, held this 3rd day of February, 2015.
