SUBJECT: Authorization to Promote to Sergeant (E)
Action Sought
The Council is asked to authorize the promotion of Officer Josh Davis to the
position of Sergeant with the Police Department, effective January 12, 2015.
Background
Due to a recent retirement, there is one vacancy in the Police Department's
authorized staff of eight Sergeants. The Civil Service Commission recently
completed a recruitment and testing process that attracted eight internal candidates
and lead to the certification of an eligible register dated December 16, 2014.
The top three candidates on the eligible register, listed in alphabetical order, are:
Brad Bisek
Josh Davis
Jamie Pearson
The City may select any of the top three candidates for appointment to the open
position.
Recommendation
Chief Tate recommends that Officer Josh Davis be promoted to the position of
Sergeant, at Step 1 of the current labor agreement and subject to the standard
six-month probationary period for newly promoted Civil Service employees.
Relationship to Vision
Hiring and promoting well-qualified employees contributes to Goal E: Deliver
effective and efficient public services by a staff of well-trained, caring and
professional employees.
Requested Action
The Council is asked to authorize the promotion of Officer Josh Davis to the
position of Sergeant with the Police Department, effective January 12, 2015.
