TO: Mayor and City Council
Mark McNeill, City Administrator
FROM: Kris Wilson, Assistant City Administrator
DATE: 12/16/2014
SUBJECT: Amendment to Uniform& Clothing Policy (F)
Action Sought
The Council is asked to adopt an amended Uniform& Clothing Policy providing a $300 annual
allowance for full-time facilities maintenance and custodial employees.
Background
The City's current Uniform & Clothing Policy calls for the City to provide five shirts and one
jacket per year for each member of the custodial and facilities maintenance staff. In order to
better meet the needs and preferences of individual employees, I am recommending that this be
converted to a dollar value allowance rather than a specific list of items to be purchased.
The new policy would read:
The City will provide an annual allowance of$300 for each full-time, non-union employee
working in a facilities maintenance or custodial position. Employees may use this
allowance to cover the cost of city-logo shirts, sweatshirts, jackets and/or hats ordered from
the City's vendor and/or for the reimbursement of the cost of purchasing work boots or
shoes.
Budget Impact
The 2015 operating budget contains 5 staff positions that would be eligible for this allowance,
resulting in a total cost of$1,500, which can be accommodated within the adopted Facilities
Maintenance budget.
Relationship to Vision
This is a housekeeping item. (F)
Requested Action
The Council is asked to offer Resolution No. 7531, a resolution amending the City's Uniform&
Clothing Policy, and move its adoption.
