Sk{\KoPEE TO: Mayor and City Council Mark McNeill, City Administrator FROM: Mike Hullander, Public Works Superintendent DATE: 11/18/2014 SUBJECT: Sidewalk and Trail Snow Removal Routes for 2014-2015 (A, E) Action Sought Motion to approve the sidewalk and trail snow removal routes for 2014-2015. Background On December 6, 1994 City Council directed Public Works to begin snow removal on all sidewalks and trails that abut collector streets and County Roadways. Staff currently has seven plow routes covering approximately seventy miles of sidewalks and trails. Staff is requesting a minor addition to sidewalk and trail snow removal route three (3): add the new trail from Sarazin Street going West along County Highway 101 and under the 101 bridge into Memorial Park. Staff has requested an additional tractor in the 2015 Capital Equipment Budget. Staff will consider additional trail segments for the 2015/16 season. As a reminder in extreme snow events, staff cannot meet the time lines as set forth in City Ordinance Sec 7.04 requiring the snow to be removed in twenty-four (24)hours for commercial and thirty-six (36) hours for residential sidewalks. Recommendation Staff recommends approval of the change to route 3 for 2014-2015. Budget Impact Funding has been included in the Parks Maintenance General Fund Budget. Relationship to Vision A.
