SHAKo1'EE TO: Mayor and City Council Mark McNeill, City Administrator FROM: Kris Wilson, Assistant City Administrator DATE: 10/07/2014 SUBJECT: Resolutions of Appreciation for Retiring Firefighters-Res. No. 7495, 7496 (E) Action Sought The Council is asked to offer Resolution No. 7495, a resolution of appreciation to Marvin John Laeger, and Resolution No. 7496, a resolution of appreciation to David A. Klein, and move their adoption. Background Every year the Fire Department hosts a banquet during Fire Prevention Week and recognizes those firefighters who have retired in the past year. This year two firefighters will be recognized -- John Laeger and Dave Klein, who both retired this past spring after 20 years of service. The Council is asked to adopt the attached resolutions of appreciation, which Mayor Tabke will present to Mr. Laeger and Mr. Klein at the banquet. Requested Action The Council is asked to offer Resolution No. 7495, a resolution of appreciation to Marvin John Laeger, and Resolution No. 7496, a resolution of appreciation to David A. Klein, and move their adoption. w Attachments: Resolution No. 7495 Resolution No. 7496 RESOLUTION NO. 7495 A RESOLUTION OF APPRECIATION TO MARVIN JOHN LAEGER WHEREAS,the residents of the City of Shakopee have had the great fortune of having the services of capable and dedicated firefighters for the past 131 years; and WHEREAS,those individuals who are members of the City's Fire Department devote many hours of their time for training,practice, and responding to fires within the City and surrounding areas; and WHEREAS,Marvin John Laeger was a member of the Shakopee Fire Department for 20 years, serving from April 15, 1994 to April 16,2014; and WHEREAS, John diligently and unselfishly served the residents of the City of Shakopee while a member of the Shakopee Fire Department; and WHEREAS,he faithfully responded to numerous fire and emergency calls regardless of the untimeliness of said calls and personal and family disruptions; and WHEREAS, in addition to providing emergency response, John also served as Chaplin for the Department,tending to the emotional and spiritual needs of those impacted by fires, accidents and other emergency situations, and WHEREAS, on many occasions John put the health, safety and welfare of Shakopee residents ahead of his own personal safety. NOW, THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED,that the City Council of the City of Shakopee hereby extends its token of thanks and appreciation to Mr. Marvin John Laeger for his 20 years of service to the Shakopee Fire Department and the community at large, and extends its best wishes for a long and happy retirement. Adopted in regular session of the City Council of the City of Shakopee, held this 7t''day of October,2014. KLEIN WHEREAS,the residents of the City of Shakopee have had the great fortune of having the services of capable and dedicated firefighters for the past 131 years; and WHEREAS,those individuals who are members of the City's Fire Department devote many hours of their time for training,practice, and responding to fires within the City and surrounding areas; and WHEREAS, David A. Klein was a member of the Shakopee Fire Department for 20 years, serving from April 15, 1994 to May 1,2014; and WHEREAS, Dave diligently and unselfishly served the residents of the City of Shakopee while a member of the Shakopee Fire Department; and WHEREAS, Dave faithfully responded to numerous fire and emergency calls regardless of the untimeliness of said calls and personal and family disruptions; and WHEREAS,Dave took special responsibility for care and maintenance of the Department's equipment during his tenure as an Engineer; and WHEREAS, on many occasions David put the health, safety and welfare of Shakopee residents ahead of his own personal safety. NOW, THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED,that the City Council of the City of Shakopee hereby extends its token of thanks and appreciation to Mr. David A. Klein for his 20 years of service to the Shakopee Fire Department and the community at large, and extends its best wishes for a long and happy retirement.
