TO: Honorable Mayor and City Council Mark McNeill, City Administrator FROM: Captain Jeff Tate SUBJECT: Request to accept technology donation from National Center for Missing and Exploited Children DATE: September 11,2006 INTRODUCTION: The Shakopee Police Department is offering Resolution No. 6494, to accept a technology donation from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. BACKGROUND: The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, in partnership with Canon Company, has selected the Shakopee Police Department as a recipient of Canon equipment. The donation includes: 1 Canon Pixma Color Printer (estimated value $275) 2. Canon Elura 80 Camcorder (estimated value $325) 3. Canon Power Shot Digital Camera (estimated value $160) These items are intended as donations to the Police Department to be used for effective investigations concerning missing and abducted children. VISIONING RELATIONSHIP This action supports: Goal B: High Quality of Life Strategy 6: Provide high quality services ALTERNATIVES; 1. Offer Resolution No. 6494. 2. Do not offer Resolution No. 6494. 3. Table and provide direction to staff. I RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends alternative #1. ACTION REQUESTED: If council concurs, offer Resolution No. 6494, a Resolution of the City of Shakopee, Minnesota, accepting technology consisting of a Canon Pixma Color Printer, Canon Elura 80 Camcorder and Canon Power Shot digital camera from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, and move its adoption. 2 RESOLUTION NO. 6494 A RESOLUTION OFTHE CITY OF SHAKOPEE, MINNESOTA, ACCEPTING A TECHNOLOGY DONATION FROM SAM'S CLUB FOUNDATION. WHEREAS, on November 6, 2002, the City Council adopted Resolution No. 5794, which established procedure relating to the receipt of gifts and donations by the City; and WHEREAS, Resolution No. 5794 specifies that gifts valued over $500 shall be accepted by resolution of the City Council, and shall require a two-thirds majority of the City Council for acceptance; and WHEREAS, the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, in partnership with Canon Equipment has graciously donated a Canon Pixma Color Printer, a Canon Elura 80 Camcorder, and a Canon Power Shot Digital Camera to the Shakopee Police Department. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SHAKOPEE, MINNESOTA, that the technology donation from The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children is gratefully accepted. FURTHER, that City staff is directed to send a letter to the donor, acknowledging receipt of the gift and expressing the appreciation of the City Council.
