7.RS:
CITY OF SHAKOPEE
Memorandum
TO: Mayor and City Council CONSENT
FROM: Mark McNeill, City Administrator
SUBJECT: Acting City Administrator Designations
DATE: August 30, 2006
INTRODUCTION:
The Council is asked to adopt a resolution adding the Assistant City Administrator
position to those City employees who are eligible to act in the absence ofthe City
Administrator.
BACKGROUND:
During the times when I am not in the office and available by telephone, there is a need
to establish an Acting City Administrator. This ensures the chain of command in the
event of an emergency.
This list was last revised in January, 1997, by Resolution 4597. Because of the recent
designation of the Assistant City Administrator position, it would be appropriate to add
that position to the list of eligible people who can act as City Administrator. The others
are:
. Finance Director
. Public Works Director
. Community Development Director
. Police Chief
Note that previously, the designee was determined in the rank order listed above.
However, I would propose to rotate the responsibility amongst the five positions. (With
the advent of e-mail, it is much easier to notify elected officials and other staff as to who
is the Acting City Administrator).
BUDGET IMPACT:
As these are short term designations, there is no pay change for being Acting City
Administrator.
RELATIONSHIP TO VISIONING:
This supports Goal D - "Vibrant, resilient and stable."
ACTION REQUIRED:
If the Council concurs, it should, by motion, adopt the following resolution:
RESOLUTION NO. 6483
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF SHAKOPEE, MINNESOTA
