SUBJECT: Adoption of Revised Pay Plan
DATE: August 31, 2006
Introduction
The Council is asked to adopt Resolution No. 6476, adopting a revised 2006 pay plan for
City employees.
Background
Adoption of the attached revised pay plan is requested as a result of several recent
Council approvals that have added, removed or altered staffpositions. It is also being
suggested that a few unused positions be removed from the pay plan as a housekeeping
matter. The salary ranges for each grade are not being altered, the only changes are to the
positions included in each of the 13 grade levels. The revised pay plan reflects the
following changes, with the dates action on the individual position was taken:
Changes
)>, Upgrading the Building Official from a Grade 8 to a Grade 9. (8/15/06)
Additions
)> Placement of the new Economic Development Specialist position at a Grade 7.
(8/2/06)
)> Placement of the new Communications Coordinator position at a Grade 6.
(8/2/06)
)> Placement of the new Public Works Secretary position at a Grade 4. (7/18/06)
Eliminations
)> EDA Coordinator: position no longer needed with the creation and placement of
the EDA Specialist position.
)> Facility Maintenance Lead Worker: position no longer needed with the
promotion of Duane Toenyan to Maintenance Supervisor - Facilities. (9/5/2005)
)> Ice Arena Maintenance Operator: position hasn't been in use for sometime.
)> Customer Service Representative: position no longer in use following the
promotion of Barb Potthier to Office Service Worker. (8/15/06)
)> Project Coordinator: position no longer in use following the departure of Ray
Ruska and the hiring of an additional Engineering Tech N.
Recommendation
Staff recommends that the Council adopt the attached resolution.
Budget Impact
The budget impact of each of these items has been accounted for in the relevant
departmental budgets and noted at the time of initial Council action.
Relationship to Vision: This is a housekeeping item.
Requested Action: Ifthe Council concurs, it should offer Resolution 6476, A

PAY SCHEDULE FOR THE OFFICERS AND NON-UNION EMPLOYEES OF THE
CITY OF SHAKOPEE, and move its adoption.
RESOLUTION NO. 6476
A RESOLUTION AMENDING RESOLUTION NO. 6338 WHICH ADOPTED
'THE 2006 PAY SCHEDULE FOR THE OFFICERS AND NON-UNION
EMPLOYEES OF THE CITY OF SHAKOPEE
WHEREAS, on December 6, 2005, the City Council of the City of Shakopee,
Minnesota, adopted Resolution No. 6338, approving the 2006 Pay Schedule for the
Officers and Non-Union Employees ofthe City of Shakopee; and
WHEREAS, on June 6, 2006, the City Council ofthe City of Shakopee,
Minnesota, adopted ResolutionNo. 6435, amending the 2006 Pay Schedule for the
Officers and Non-Union Employees of the CityofShakopee; and
WHEREAS, the position of Building Official has since been reclassified to a
Grade 9, and the new positions of Public Works Secretary, Communications Coordinator
and Economic Development Specialist have been added; and
WHEREAS, the positions of Project Coordinator, Ice Arena Maintenance
Operator, Facilities Maintenance Lead Worker and Customer Service Representative are
no longer in use.
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
SHAKOPEE, MINNESOTA that the attached 2006 Classification Grade levels and Pay
Maximums schedule is hereby adopted incorporating the above listed changes.
