CITY OF SHAKOPEE CONSENT
MEMORANDUM
To: Mayor and City Council
Mark McNeil, City Administrator
From: Duane Toenyan, Facilities Maintenance Lead
Meeting Date: August 15, 2006
Subject: Elevator Service Agreement
INTRODUCTION
City Council is asked to authorize a new service agreement covering all four of the City's
elevators and the wheelchair lift at the Community Center.
BACKGROUND AND DISCUSSION
The City currently has four elevators located at: the Library, City Hall, Community
Center, and Fire Station # 51. Also, a wheelchair lift is located at the Community Center.
Presently, we have two separate service agreements covering just two elevators; the
one at the Community Center provided by Schindler Elevator Corporation, and the one
at City Hall provided by Minnesota Elevator, Inc. We have no elevator service coverage
for the Library, Fire Station # 51, or the wheelchair lift at the Community Center.
Proposals
Schindler and Minnesota Elevator were consulted and each submitted a service
agreement proposal that would cover all of our equipment:
COMPANY PROVIDED COVERAGE ANNUAL
COST
. Quarterly inspections, adjustments & lubrications
Schindler including all elevators and wheelchair lift
. Annual safety devices testing
. Constant electronic failure monitoring for all $3,840.00
elevators
. Monthly inspections, adjustments, and lubrications
MN for 3 elevators -quarterly for # 51 elevator and CC
Elevator wheelchair lift $4,716.00
. Annual safety devices testinq
An elevator service agreement will provide quarterly inspection, lubrication, and
adjustments of components vital for long term, safe operation. The required annual
load-test will be included-all performed by certified technicians. This agreement will
also provide us with priority service call time and discounted labor rates.
RECOMMENDATION
Based on the proposals, Schindler otters an agreement with a lower annual cost and
includes the electronic remote monitoring which is additional protection.
