SUBJECT: Recommendation to retain used Fire Department 2000 Ford Ranger.
INTRODUCTION:
The Fleet Division of Public Works is requesting council to consider retaining the Fire
Dept. 2000 Ford Ranger to replace the Street Divisions 1994 Chevy S-lO. We are also
requesting the. 1994.Chevy S-10 be retained for use by the Facility Maintenance Division
(Govt. Bldg.).
BACKGROUND:
The Fire Department has replaced the 2000 Ford Ranger which was used as an Assistant
Fire Chiefvehic1e. The Ford Ranger was.to be retained for use by a new Grading
Inspector in the Engineering Division but it has been recommended to not fill this
position. The duties of grading inspector are now being handled by the Building
Inspections Division. Staff is requesting to retain this vehicle for use by the Street and
Fleet Divisions of Public Works. This vehicle will replace the existing 1994 Chevy S-10.
Staff has replaced the Red lenses on the light bar with amber lenses for the safety of the
operator working in the street R.O. W. The fleet Division also uses this vehicle to loan
out to other Departments when their vehicles need an extended stay at the shop for
service work. When an Engineering or Fire Chiefs vehicle needs service it only takes a
few seconds to change the lenses from amber to red.
Staff is also requesting to retain the 1994 Chevy 8-10 pick -up for use by the Facility
Maintenance Division (Govt. Bldg.). A new staff member has been added to the division
and they have requested a vehicle when one becomes available. The Chevy S-1 0 does
not have a light bar and since Facility Maintenance does not work in the road R.O.W. it is
not required.
