POLICE DEPARTMENT Memorandum TO: Mayor and City Council Mark McNeill, City Administrator FROM: Ed Schwaesdall, Fire Chief Dan Hughes, Chief of Police SUBJECT: Recognition of Community Emergency Response Team DATE: July 5th, 2006 INTRODUCTION: During the Mayor's report, the Mayor is asked to introduce the Fire Chief and Police Chiefto recognize our Community Emergency Response Team. BACKGROUND: In 2005, the Shakopee City Council allocated funds to both the fire and police department budget's to begin the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT). The CERT program helps train people to be better prepared to respond to emergency situations within their communities. The second CERT class completed training in spring of 2006. City staff wishes at this time to recognize those CERT members who have been trained to assist first responders in dealing with natural and man-made disasters. VISIONING RELATIONSHIP: This action supports: Goal A - Active and healthy community. Strategy 2: Enhance physical, mental,.spiritual health Strategy 3: Protect the environment Strategy 5: Foster community connections ACTION REQUESTED: The Mayor is asked to introduce the Fire Chief and Police Chief for the recognition ceremony.
