MEMORANDUM
To: Mayor and City Council
Mark McNeill, City Administrator
From: Kris Wilson, Assistant City Administrator
Meeting Date: June 20, 2006
Subject: Authorization to Hire for HR Technician Position
INTRODUCTION
The City Council is asked to authorize hiring Jessica Adamietz for the position ofHR
Technician.
BACKGROUND AND DISCUSSION
At the June 6 City Council meeting, the Council approved a job description and
authorized an internal posting for the newly created position of Human Resources
Technician. The position was posted through June 14 and two internal candidates were
interviewed on June 19. The interview panel consisted of City Administrator Mark
McNeill, Lori Buss of the Scott County Employee Relations Department and myself.
Ms. Adamietz is currently employed as an office service worker in the City's Public
Works Department. Prior to joining the City's staff in May of2005, Ms. Adamietz
worked for the City of Jordan where she performed a variety of clerical and finance
related. tasks, including assisting with payroll.
This appointment will obviously create a vacancy in the Public Works Department. We
will work as quickly as possible with Public Works to finalize a job description that most
accurately reflects desired job duties for the vacated position. In the meantime, Ms.
Adamietz will be available to assist Public Works during the transition period.
RECOMMENDATION
It is recommended that the City Council authorize hiring Jessica Adamietz for the
position ofHR Technician, with a starting salary at Grade 6, Step F ($44,242 per year),
effective July 10, 2006.
Due to the fact that Ms. Adamietz is currently a City employee, the typical pre-
employment screenings will not be necessary.
RELATIONSHIP TO VISIONING
This appointment most closely relates to Goal F, Housekeeping.
REQUESTED ACTION
If Council concurs, it should move to authorize hiring Jessica Adamietz for the position
ofHR Technician at Grade 6, Step F ofthe 2006 City Pay Plan, effective July 10, 2006.
