SUBJECT: Authorization to hire Records Technician
DATE: June 1, 2006
INTRODUCTION:
The Police Department is requesting Council's approval to hire a full-time records
technician to fill a budgeted position.
BACKGROUND:
The Police Civil Service Commission recently conducted the necessary testing and a new
eligible register was created for the position of records technician.
The following names are currently listed on the eligible register, in alphabetical order:
Katie Kornder
Jean Link
Although the Civil Service statute requires the Commission to adopt rules for
certification of three names to the appointing authority (City Council), an opinion from
the city attorney allows the appointment with Council approval.

BUDGET IMPACT:
The position was budgeted for in the 2006 Police Department Budget.
ALTERNATIVES
1. Authorize the hiring of Jean Link at 40 hours per week.
2. Do not authorize the hiring.
3. Table and provide direction to staff.
RECOMMENDATION:
Alternative #1. Staff recommends Council authorize the hiring of Jean Link as a
probationary records technician, at 40 hours per week, at Grade 3, Step E, $15.993 per
hour, subiect to the satisfactory completion of pre-employment medical and
psychological examinations.
ACTION REQUESTED:
The City Council, if they concur, should by motion authorize the hiring of Jean Link as a
probationary records technician, at 40 hours per week, at Grade 3, Step E, at $15.993 per
hour, subiect to the satisfactory completion of pre-employment medical and
psychological examinations.

The Shakopee Police Civil Service Commission conducted the appropriate testing and
established the following eligible register, in order of their standing, in accordance with
the provisions of M.S. A. 419.
