Accepting the Donation of Light Fixtures from Valleyfair for the Southbridge Community Park Hockey Rink.
Introduction
The City Council is asked to consider a donation of light fixtures from Valleyfair for use on the Southbridge
Community Park hockey rink.
Background
Valleyfair recently renovated their miniature golf area of the amusement park. The miniature golf area was
removed and a large picnic pavilion was installed. During the remodel Valleyfair removed four Musco Light poles
with fixtures from the areas. Valleyfair offered to donate them to the City or the School District in November of
2013 for field lighting where needed. The poles were not able to be reused because the concrete bases were cut off
inside the poles however the fixtures which are made up of four lights per fixture are reusable. The School District
did not have a need for them and agreed the City could reuse them around the hockey rink within Southbridge
Community Park.
On April 29,2014 the City Council awarded the contract for the construction of Southbridge Community Park to
K.A. Witt,Inc. The approval of the contract included the approval to reuse the lights donated by Valleyfair.
Budget Impact
Musco Lighting provided the City with an estimated value of the donated light fixtures in the amount of$13,500.
New poles were installed and the light fixtures were attached to each pole. The light fixtures have an
estimated 7-10 years of life.New bulbs were installed in all lights.
