No. 6722 v". ~0.1~ CITY OF SHAKOPEE MEMORANDUM To: Mayor and City Council Mark McNeill, City Administrator From: Jamie Poifey, Parks, Recreation, and Natural Resources Meeting Date: January 15, 2008 Subject: DNR Grant Acceptance for Quarry Lake Park, Resolution No. 6722 INTRODUCTION City Council is asked to adopt Resolution No.6722, A Resolution of the City of Shakopee, Minnesota Accepting a Minnesota Local Trails Connection Grant for the Quarry Lake Park Project. BACKGROUND AND DISCUSSION In 2005, the Prior Lake Water Ski Association and the City submitted a grant to the DNR for funding the development of the Quarry Lake Park project. We were notified that we have been awarded $78,675 for this project. The funding, which is provided as a reimbursable grant, had a deadline of December 31, 2008. The DNR has granted an extension of the project and the funding is to be used by June 30, 2009. Resolution No. 6500 was adopted on September 19, 2006 accepting the Local Trail Connections grant however the resolution did not include all of the information required by the DNR. A revised resolution is required to obtain the grant contract between the City of Shakopee and the Minnesota DNR. VISIONING RELATIONSHIP A. Active and Healthy Community E. Financially Strong REQUESTED ACTION If City Council concurs, it should, by motion offer Resolution No. 6722, A Resolution of the City of Shakopee, Minnesota Accepting a Minnesota Local Trails Connection Grant for the Quarry Lake Park Project, and move its adoption. RESOLUTION NO. 6722 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF SHAKOPEE, MINNESOTA ACCEPTING A MINNESOTA LOCAL TRIALS CONNECTION GRANT FOR THE QUARRY LAKE PARK PROJECT WHEREAS, the City of Shakopee submitted a grant application to the Minnesota DNR to assist with developing the Quarry Lake Park project; and, WHEREAS, the Prior Lake Water Ski Association assisted the City in preparing the grant application; and, WHEREAS, the City has been notified that $78,675 in funding has been recommended by the DNR for approval; and, WHEREAS, the funds are to be used for the purpose of developing a reclaimed quarry into amulti-use recreational trail facility. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SHAKOPEE, MINNESOTA, that the City of Shakopee (The City) accepts the grant and will provide funding to match the grant award. BE 1T FURTHER RESOLVED that the City is the fiscal agent for the grant, and the grant will be administered by Jamie Polley, Parks, Recreation, and Natural Resources Director, 1255 Fuller Street, Shakopee, Minnesota, 55379. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City will maintain the improvements funded by the grant for a period of no less than 20 years. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that this resolution supersedes Resolution Number 6500 adopted on the 19th day of September, 2006.
