Memorandum ~ ~
To:. Honorable Mayor, City Council

From: Jaclyn Yzermans, Officer
Date: January 9, 2008
Subject: Healthy Communities Grant
INTRODUCTION
The Council is asked to consider Resolution # 6723, a resolution of the City of Shakopee
regarding the acceptance for a Healthy Communities Grant, funded by St. Francis
Regional Medical Center that was applied for in December 2007.
BACKGROUND
The Shakopee Police Department works in a number of ways to promote safe and
effective medical assistance to the community. Sworn personnel are also mandated to
maintain a minimum level of first responder training, as outlined by the Minnesota Board
of Peace Officer Standards and Training (MN P.O.S.T.), as well as the Emergency
Medical Services Regulatory Board in Minnesota (MNEMSRB).
The Healthy Communities Grant, funded by St. Francis Regional Medical Center,
provides funds up to $1220.00 for first responder training equipment. The training
equipment will be beneficial to the police department for the in-service first responder
training. The police department currently has a police officer who is certified as a
Paramedic and first responder trainer. He conducts training to all sworn officers within
the department. The training provides officers with updated medical training and meets
the criteria by the P.O.S.T. Board and MNEMSRB.
BUDGET IMPACT
The overall budget will not be affected, as there is no cost to the city to purchase the
supplies requested.
